Dangerous Drivers in Florida

Drivers in Florida received more than 5 million traffic tickets in 2006. This is the highest in five years. Not only do you have to be aware of road conditions but you must also be on the alert for bad drivers.

Here are some of the Florida DMV statistics for Florida drivers in 2006:

  • 1,361,852 Speeding Tickets – The highest number of traffic tickets goes to speeders with close to 1.4 million tickets issued. Close to 50% of all moving violations issued are speeders. Speeding is a killer and can be avoided.

  • 3,374 Fatalities – In Florida, the number of people who died in motor vehicle crashes reached 3,374 in 2006 according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA.) Sixty-two percent of the drivers and passengers killed were not wearing safety belts. The highest fatality rate were drivers age 20 to 24.

  • 63,591 DUIs – Florida law enforcement issued more than 60,000 criminal traffic violations for DUIs throughout the state of Florida with only 310 found not guilty and 1,503 dismissed in 2006. Thirty-three percent of traffic fatalities were a result of alcohol-related accidents.
