Points on Your Drivers License

Once you get points on your license you cannot remove them. Some states like New York allow drivers to complete a course to reduce the number of points on their drivers license. The State of Florida does not offer this option.

When it comes to your drivers license points are a bad thing. When you get a traffic ticket in Florida, in most cases it will result in points on your license. Get too many points and your license is suspended. But there is one easy thing you can do to avoid getting the points.

They key words here are “avoid the points”. Once you have points on your Florida Drivers License you cannot remove them. A common mistake made by drivers is to plead guilty and pay the full fine. The result is you get the points on your license.

Months later you hear from your auto insurance company that they are canceling your insurance or raising your rates dramatically. At that point you decide to try to remove the points – no can do you’re stuck.

You can avoid the points on your license if you elect traffic school. Florida will let you take a traffic school class 5 times in your life and once in a 12 month period. So most drivers can avoid the points for most tickets. This applies to non-criminal traffic violations such as speeding, running a stop sign or red light, or other moving violations.
